Major holidays and ceremoniesHoli (also called Holaka or Phagwa): This festival is the less religious. It is celebrated in March. It celebrates the spring.
Mahashivaratri- It is the day Shiva was married to the goddess Parvati. It is celebrated by food offerings and all day feasting. Important symbolsAum- The most important symbol. It appears on temples and sacred writings, also used in prayer
swastika- Really important. used in religious events and festivals, it represents eternal nature of the Brahman. Important peopleRamanuja- taught people to worship their own god and build a few temples
Lord Swaminarayan- had both Hindu and Islamic followers helped poor women and children. |
